Dormire is an experimental piece that depicts the mind’s consciousness as one falls asleep.
I wrote this piece primarily using quarter-tone harmony to create an unnerving atmosphere, exploring the idea of mistaken familiarity often experienced in dreams. The opening phrase depicts the descent into sleep through a series of descending half-major/minor thirds, foreshadowing the nightmare to come, whilst capturing the spell-like nature of being so tired you cannot help but succumb to sleep.
