Brinsley sang with The 24 for the March 2023 concert performing in York Guildhall. Tickets were sold out, and there was incredibly good reception from the audience members.
The programme was conducted by Robert Hollingworth, and a two liturgical masses, Palestrina, arr. Soriano: Missa Papae Marcelli and Rautavaara:Missa a cappella were broken up by short bursts of poetry.
In the generous acoustics of York’s spectacular fifteenth-century Guildhall, The 24 is delighted to feature two unusual masses. The significant commission by four professional choirs from one of the most notable Finnish composers of recent times, Einojuhani Rautavaara, is heard possibly for the first time in the UK. At times symphonic and textural, it could not be more different from Palestrina’s classic work for Pope Marcellus – beautifully arranged a few years after his death for double-choir by Francesco Soriano.1
