University Symphony Orchestra - London and Paris

Brinsley performed with the University of York Symphony Orchestra in the first orchestral concert of the 2022/23 season, in the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. John Stringer conducted a programme of city portraits that travelled from Elgar’s London to the Paris of Delius, Grainger and Gershwin. The concert sold out.¹

Tickets were “like gold dust”, wrote Martin Dreyer, who described the orchestra as “a popular group” whose “standards are high”. He heard violins that were “immediately bold” in the Elgar, a military march that “rang out with majestic bravado”, and a Delius that reached “an immense climax, which suited the orchestra’s mood perfectly”.²
